Fiction of seeing lottery entering cookie
Posted on April 30, 2012 by Tim
I think this is the first time that I've been able to do a headline in Engrish, but I was sorta inspired to that by the title of one of today's Fan Fictions. You see, there's two new ones from Onuki. The first has the relatively “normal” sounding title of Beat The Clock which features the Robot Mafia wanting to rule the universe so they kidnap Shunsuke, Fry, Amy, Hermes, Farnsworth, and Zoidberg and tie them to a bomb. This of course leaves Bender and Leela to save them before time runs out. This fic is based on a idea by Trenton Sands. Now the other fic is called *deep breath* Good fortune and happiness will come to the home of those who smile, which is I think the second longest title in the fan fic archive, and the inspiration for today's headline should now be obvious, even though it's sort of a clash of cultures. Anyway, this fic features a PE crew in a rock band theme and hijinks by Fry and Bender. And, as usual, a warning to the overly protective of Fry, Onuki's fics feature himself in a “relationship” with Fry. Oh, and I should also mention the Fan Art; two of them, both of Onuki (who apparently looks very much like Fry). A mouse over the thumbnails on his fan art page will give you the details.

Coming Soon - Season 7
Posted on April 28, 2012 by Tim
Good news everyone! Sources are reporting that Futurama Season Seven will launch on June 20th with two back-to-back episodes. One is The Bots and the Bees, in which PE gets a new soda machine which Bender promptly impregnates (that's the last time I'm ever siting a unprotected finger in a coin return ); and A Farewell to Arms. The third epp of S7, which presumably will air a week later, will be titled Decision 2012. Thanks to Marloc for the tip, and note to self: bug Leandro to dig out the countdown code.

!iMmOrTaL! has been busily working on his new Fan Comic Welcome To The World of Sorrow and he reports he's now got 30 pages done. Now, don't get excited, 'cause he hasn't sent in any of them yet, but he has sent two more chatacter profiles from it, which are on his Fan Art. He also took a break from the comic to do this pic of Amy on the cover of a popular “men's magazine”.
Murder and mayhem and amnesia
Posted on April 25, 2012 by Tim
There's only about 242 shopping days until Xmas, so there's no time like late April to start thinking about the next holiday season. And that's just what Alanquest has done. He brings us some early holiday cheer of Robot Santa. This was done in chalk on a chimney, about which he says he spent “A heartwarming three hours of evening work standing on a 15ft ladder. Hopefully, this wont scare the children in the neighborhood. Oh, and kids, don't try this at home, even though this was made at a home.”. That ought to keep the neighbors wondering (and away) for a while. It's some very nice fan art, but since it's a photo of fan art I tossed a coin, it came up heads, and put it in the Fan's Photos section.

Ok, so much for murder and mayhem, let's get on to the amnesia. Uh... what was I doing again? Oh, that's right, a Fan Fiction. From new to Madhouse but not new to the fandom authoress Jewelvine comes the first two parts* of a six episode tale titled Revenge which starts out with the ordinary kidnapping and ransoming of a Nibblonian, which might just turn out to not be all that it appears to be, and this may have a very major impact on a certain delivery boy and space captain.
* Jewelvine actually sent me three parts but I thought there was some brokeness in part III but it turns out it was just her being creative, which is what sometimes happens when you put a techo-nerd in charge of what is essentially a creative enterprise. So look for part III soon, and by soon I probably mean next week 'cause I'm busier than Scruffy with a new magazine right now.
Two heads are better than one
Posted on April 20, 2012 by Tim
Not one, but two, count 'em, two two headed Frys. Must be a special on 'em somewhere today. The one on my right, which ought to be on your right also, unless you're in one of those countries where your monitor scans right to left, or bottom to top, then you're on your own; anyway, the one on MY right is from Jenny Ngo and she says “Two heads used to be better than one if you draw Fry like this...” and I couldn't agree more.

The other two-headed Fry is one of three new Fan Arts from Jennifer Morton (alias Panda Jenn). She sez this one was drawn by request and that it was challenging to do, but also "fun on a bun" too. There's a back story to each of her new pics, so be sure to mouse over each thumbnail for an explanation.

Jennifer also included, at no extra charge, a one-page Fan Comic. It's called People Treat Me Different and it stars Lucy, the child of Fry and Leela, who is having a little trouble dealing with her schoolmates reaction to her ancestry. Lucy is the creation of DAer Tastes-Like-Fry, and Jenn drew this comic as a surprise for schler.

And last up today is a new, never before that I know of published Fan Fiction. It's the first effort by Lauren Smiles and it's called Love At Long Last, in which Leela has another routine, run of the mill birthday, except that a certain delivery boy has a not so routine, run of the mill surprise for her.
Blood, Guts, and Rush
Posted on April 18, 2012 by Tim
What a horrible way to go. But that's how the heads roll today, 'cause we got mega death (which would be a cool name for a band ... what? Oh, right. I shoulda guessed.) Ok, it IS a cool name for a band. But that's not important now. What is important is that Dwayne Anderson has released two more chapters in his Fan Fiction Matters of Life and Death. In Wrin-killed (part 6) Farnsworth's attempts to get rid of old age wrinkles backfire on him, and in Chemi-kill (part 7) Wernstrom's vain attempts at scientific glory teach him a thing or two about lab safety, or the lack thereof. Warning - The situations portrayed in these stories are based on real deaths and are rather graphic.

Now in other matters of life and death, let's turn our attention to the more traditional Suicide Booth and have a look at what might have happened had Bender been in line in front of Fry in Space Pilot 3000, which is what Rush does in his new fic Slightly Delayed.

We interrupt Futurama Madhouse for this important Simpsons news
Posted on April 16, 2012 by Tim
There's a headline that will likely get me a death threat or two. So, because of that, and also because my shoulder is killin' me from a pulled muscle or something and that makes typing a little difficult, I gotta keep it sorta short today. Fortunately, we have a bunch of picture thingies and that'll make life a little easier (for me anyway). First up, Alanquest spotted (and grabbed) this frame from yesterdays Simpsons episode Beware My Cheating Bart. The FA1 text reads “WATCH FUTURAMA THURSDAYS AT 10”. I guess we can't say that Fox isn't promoting the show, right?

Now here's a Bender picture that was spotted in a unusual place and photographed from an even more unusual place. My friend Pat K drive trains for a living, and one day recently he pulled up to a stop signal and noticed this Bender graffiti on the car on the next track. Thinking quickly, he snapped a couple of photos with his cell phone. The distance is only about 4 feet (1.2m) so it was a hard shot to get.

And here's someone we haven't heard from in a while - Futurama_Freak1. He still does the occasional Futurama Fan Art, just nothing that we can show here on the Madhouse. But every once in a while he does one that gets past our V-chip. Freako is currently “enjoying” a stay in the hospital where, between needles, enemas, and sponge baths, he's passing his time creating a pokemon game for the gameboy. I can't tell you what he's in for - I've probably violated half a dozen US privacy laws just saying he's in - but he might enjoy a note from his many fans letting him know we're thinking of him.
More things and less days
Posted on April 15, 2012 by Tim
Huzzah! More Fan Art! Onuki sent two new ones. This one, with Bender and Hermes and a hovercar, he drew at the request of Trenton Sands who would like to see another Hermes & Bender adventure.
Onuki also sent along a Fan Fiction called Uncle Bender's BedTime Stories in which Bender tells stories to an insomniac Fry. It's based on an idea by Hailey Sands and the usual cautionary note about many of Onuki's stories in that they feature Fry and the author in a relationship.

Next up on the hit parade, dinkdrinker has ground out another Comic Transcript. This one is #52 RO-BOTOX!. It also includes a bonus feature with Captain Zapp Brannigan in PURPLE TENTACLE TOUR. dink says “8 more REGULAR comics left... then the Simpsons crossover, and the ComicCon's ones... yay. ALMOST there!”. Let's have a big Huzzah! for dinkdrinker and his partner in crime Umbreon who have doublehandedly cranked out most of the transcripts.

And lastly, a little unsolicited promo here, our good friends over at TSFFC are having a little creative contest. It's called Theme-A-Day. According to the site's Grand Poohbah Archonix, “A thing a day! Every day a new theme will be announced; you'll have 24 hours to get entries in and no longer. You can write, draw, paint, sculpt, glue things to yourself and photograph it (but be careful you don't use anything permanent) as long as it fits the theme. Most of the themes will be Simpsons and Futurama related, but you may find the odd completely crazy idea now and then.“. Sounds like fun, check it out! The first one starts tomorrow (which it already is in some places).
Lost in translation
Posted on April 13, 2012 by Tim
Oh! Oh! Looky, it's Fan Art! And there's two of them! They're from Jennifer Morton aka Panda Jenn, who I see from her fanart page goes all the way back to the very beginning of this site. This pic is called The penalty for taking the last Slurm, and I think it's pretty obvious who's Slurm got taken and what the penalty was (although I'm pretty sure it would have been a whole lot worse if that had been Bender's last beer ).

And this is Jenn's other pic. I don't normally show multiples but in this case I made an exception for a number of reasons; one, there hasn't been much Fan Art lately and it's really nice to have some. And two, this is the lost in translation part - Jenn sent the pics to Leandro, and he musta been all worn out from doing his annual update AND having to remember how the internals of the Madhouse work all in the same week, so he sent them to me to deal with. Now with a name like Jennifer Morton I'm pretty sure she's from some English speaking country. Leandro isn't. So what I think he (Leandro) was trying to tell me (Tim) was that she (Jenn) told him was that this is a picture of her (Jenn), done Futurama style.

Now that that's out of the way, let's clone us some Frys. Yep, you heard me right, clones of Fry - lots of the little orange haired buggers running around, and some of them are turning evil. You see, Trenton Sands has got a new Fan Fiction out. It's called Battle Frymn and, as you might guess, it's about an experiment gone horribly wrong, and as a result Farnsworth sends Fry, Bender, and Leela to Incheon, a Korean War planet to loose the clones. Complications arise when they (the clones) are blown to bits by a Doop Solider named Maples and it leads to a quest for the Holy Grail. If you like war movies and Futurama, this is the fanfic for you!
Words and pics and bits (oh my!)

It is a truism that what goes up must come down. It is also true that what goes down doesn't always stay down. If you've ever been to a frat party then you probably know this. And speaking of things that don't always stay down, if you have 13 seconds of your life you don't know what to do with, here is a short (13s) new Video Clip from Rush. It's called Elevator Music Futurama, and it's elevator muzak, Futurama style.

And in the short things that go down easy department here's two new Fan Fictions from the afore mentioned Rush. There's Overbending in which Bender overreacts to something he reads on the Internet (that's never happened before ) and, if you have another 13 seconds you don't know how to fill, there's Ramabrations, which took Rush less time to write than it did me to write this; but it's a look at how things might go ever so slightly slightly different during The Beast With A Billion Backs.

And lastly but not leastly, if you've been to our News Archive lately, and by lately I mean the last couple of years, you'll have noticed that it was slightly screwed up, and by slightly I mean seriously bollixed up. This was because the code that we use to maintain this went missing, we think it was after that aforementioned frat party, but we can't really remember. So anyway, fast forward to a couple of days ago and I finally badgered Leandro into figuring out how this thing works and writing a new program. And after hitting it with my own hammer a bit, I'm very pleased to report that it's back in reasonably decent shape again, and what's more, the tools for it are safely tucked away on this site so we know where they are. Also, if you haven't ever been to the News Archive before, check it out - every word that has been uttered on these pages since Leandro rescued the site from that cosmic bit bucket in the sky back on 1 April 2000 is there.
Now I know how Scruffy feels
Posted on April 8, 2012 by Tim
Heheh, Leandro in his little maid outfit, now there's a mental image and conjures up ... wait, what? Brain bleach ... need brain bleach! Oh, and that Canadian "dust", that's snow eh. It's not surprising that Leo didn't recognize it since he lives in a place where it's snowed once in the last 90 years.

Anyway, I'm not on vacation, although I'm apparently a little behind on the house cleaning so I'd better get cracking. Here's someone else who is not on vacation, Dinkdrinker, who has cranked out yet another Comic Transcript. This one is #46, Follow The Reader. It's called that 'cause in this story, you can choose from several alternative paths. I'd also like to say that there's something special about this particular item; as you probably already do know, 1999 is very significant in Futurama. And this contribution just happens to be the one thousand nine hundred ninty-ninth fan contribution that I've handled in the two thousand fifty one days I've been at this shtick.

Another area of the Madhouse that hasn't been dusted lately is Poetry and Song Parodies, which is mostly because it's been a while since anyone sent one of those in. Well, we have a cure for that. It's been a while since we've heard from DSS too (although not nearly as long as yesterdays contributor) and he's returned with a song parody. It's called Leelamutantkickassgirl, which is set to the tune of Honeybabysweetiedoll by Van Halen.

And lastly but not leastly, venturing back into one of the more well traveled rooms of the Madhouse, we have a new Fan Fiction from new contributor Lamusiqe13. The fic is called Shawn With The Wind in which Leela goes behind Fry's back and dates Shawn instead of him on Valentine's Day. Oh, and you shippers out there, you're gonna love the ending on this one.
Nothing like a vacation to come back all inspired! Right guys? Um, guys? Is anyone still alive?
Posted on April 6, 2012 by Leandro
Well, one goes on vacation for a few months and nobody dusts off the place! I guess it's time I put on my little maid outfit and clean up the madhouse. Fortunately, now that we're in a Canadian host, even the dust is polite and doesn't pile much on anything.

Anyway, while I was out vacationing in the Magical Land of People Who Used To Be Very Involved in the Futurama Community But Then Moved On To Other Interests and Only Shows Up Every Few Years Or So, or MLPWUTBVIFCBTMOTOIOSUEFYOS for short, or MLP for shorter, I ran into Jennifer Morton, who we hadn't heard from in years. Jenn has been busy with her webcomic Panda Jenn, but took some time off to draw us a Futurama vacation with her original characters. From the artist's mouth: "This pic features Leela, Fry and Bender enjoying a day at the beach with thier new friends, Jenny and Andrea. Jenny was my first, (as in pre-Jenn and Foximon) OC, though she never got as much attention since the show got cancelled shortly after I created her and of course I ended up losing interest. Andrea belongs to my long time friend (my first internet friend in fact and whom I met through Futurama) Tammy. Andrea is the one sitting on Bender's shoulders, BTW."

Coincidentally, the last time Jenn sent us any Futurama Fan Art, it was almost exactly 10 years ago. A time before Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, or GMail. When a 56k modem was still the way to go to get online. When 128MB of RAM on a computer was a lot.

Ugh, I feel old already. Time for another vacation! Kids, get off my lawn!
Unhappy Birthday
Posted on April 4, 2012 by Tim
Want a sure-fire way to ruin a birthday party? How about this one - don't invite a pompous windbag to your party and then have him show up anyway. Giftwraped. Well, that's exactly what happens in Dwayne Anderson's latest installment of his Fan Fiction Matters of Life And Death. This is part 5 - Birthday Bash and, as before, be forewarned as this contains mildly graphic death.

On a slightly less death inspired note, we also have a new Comic Transcript by Umbreon. This one is #47: Chitty Chitty Bend Bend in which the Professor becomes despondent after his new invention gets him laughed out of an Air and Space show and his failed attempt at suicide leaves Bender flying around New New York.

Frostyrama
Posted on April 3, 2012 by Tim
OK, got a whole steaming pile of stuff from Frosty here today. First up is a new Fan Fiction called Castlerama, which as you might guess is a crossover fic between the TV show Castle and another TV show (maybe you've heard of it) Futurama. The fic starts with Detective Kate Beckett and best selling author Richard Castle investigating the murder of one Yancy Fry, and while investigating they end up in the year 3011 and meet up with the Planet Express Crew, which causes a couple of couples to think about their relationships. And of course, Frosty also drew this neato promo pic.

But wait, there's more! Like a whole bunch of Fan Art. Like some movie posters with Futurama characters like Horrible Bosses and Moulin Rouge.

And for you Ice Hockey fans there's like four sketches of Fry as a Detroit Red Wings player in various stages of completion. Hey, it's just like Deathball, except for the ice, the tiny little puck, the big sticks, and the even bigger players.
Happy Rebirth FM/TLZ!
Posted on April 1, 2012 by Tim
About once every three years or so I actually remember that this is a special date. And what makes it special is not that it's April Fools day where I should do something silly like an entire update backwards or all in binary or some such (although those things would be loads of fun); no, what makes it special is that on this date twelve years ago, thanks largely to the efforts of Leandro, FM's predecessor site The Leela Zone was reincarnated and given a new lease on life (does this sound familiar? ) and has gone on to become the oldest living Futurama fansite. So a big steaming pile of kudos to Leandro for all of the blood, sweat, tears, and I'm sure, no small amount of ca$h, that's gone into keeping this site alive all this time.

Ok, so we didn't get to be the Oldest Living Futurama Fansite by sitting around blowing our own horns (well, not completely anyway), we did it 'cause there's cool people out there doing stuff like this: it's a twofer, one Fan Art and one Fan Fiction. The fic is by Rush and it's called Futuremon in which Fry asks the What If machine what life would be like if it were more like Pokemon. And the other half of the deal is the pic shown here (in slightly reduced form) that Umbreon drew when her “overactive imagination” was inspired by Rush's fic.

But wait! There's more! Inspiration that is. !iMmOrTaL! dropped by with a couple of bits of Fan Art and this is what he had to say about them: “Greetings! It's been a while but I have something that will make Rush very happy! If you remember his short story Nature and Awkwardness All Around, I may have mentioned some time ago that I had expressed interest in making a short fan comic about it, though I don't have a lot of free time to do it as I'm still busy making my own fan comic. But still, here is a simple image showing the plot of his story. Maybe one day I'll make a comic out of it.”. Very cool. !iMmOrTaL! also sent another teaser to the Fan Comic he's working on, this one featuring Hermes.
